You have found your way here, welcome! My name is Jason Carter, I am a public speaker, storyteller, musician and film maker. I believe that there is a huge story gap in society and my passion is to try and build bridges between people, using stories, both verbal and non verbal.
Sometimes we need to unplug and feel our way through the day, without devices and outside influences. Here is a brief reflection on what that means for me.
Many of us feel disconnected from our Governments, Institutions and other entities that are are there to serve us. The disconnect often arises due to lack of communication or moreover, lack of stories that we can relate to. As someone who has had the privilege of learning how to communicate to both large and small groups of people all over the world over many years, I have come to the conclusion that if we do not attempt to connect with people using stories that they can relate to we will ultimately lose our target audience.
On a Government level this can be disastrous and can make or break a campaign and policies can become distant and irrelevant, resulting in a society that embraces apathy instead of hope, pessimism instead of optimism. Those in leadership roles need to understand the stories of others in order to be effective leaders. The stories of those leaders also need to connect to the stories of those they are leading in order to gain both trust and respect so that they can lead others effectively. We often call leaders to ‘step up’ but in fact leaders need to ‘step down’ to the level of their followers so that they can carry the stories of those people with them as they lead.
The Story Gap is a new service enabling individuals and organisations to understand their own stories and how to communicate those stories to any given audience. Stories are vital in helping us understand each other both individually and collectively.
I am looking forward to helping you find your story and enabling you to communicate your story effectively. Please reach out via the contact page with any queries or questions. If you would like me to speak at your event, please do get in touch!
